Stations 6 and 19 responded to a second fatal accident within 10 hours involving a person not wearing a seatbelt. This accident occurred in the 4400 block of Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64) approximately 3-1/2 miles east of Walterboro, near the Mashawville Community. The incident was reported at 11:47 PM, Saturday evening 8-May. A west bound Chevrolet Tahoe left the roadway at a high rate of speed, over corrected and rolled over at least three times. The vehicle came to rest on the passenger’s side blocking Charleston Hwy. The 29 year old female driver was unrestrained and was ejected onto the highway. She was found in cardiac arrest approximately 50 feet from the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics initiated resuscitative efforts at the scene, despite the multiple traumatic injuries. The patient did not respond to medical treatment. She was transported to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Traffic on Charleston Highway was rerouted for over an hour.
