Stations 1, 18 and 23 responded to a moderate speed MVC on Confederate Highway west of Halyard Road at 1351, Friday afternoon 21-May. The westbound Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway at approximately 50 mph, striking several trees and causing heavy to the driver’s side of the car. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts and the air bags deployed. The female driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the woman. A hydraulic spreader was used to remove the driver’s door, while a short ram was inserted to lift the dash. The woman was extricated onto a long spine board. She was transported to a nearby field to meet with a medical helicopter. Crews treated her for the injuries in the Medic unit while waiting on the helicopter. Lifenet 3 responded, then flew the woman to the Trauma Center at Richland Memorial in Columbia, SC.

Engine 18, Engine 23, Medic 18, Rescue 1, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Janet Laney served as Incident Commander. Lt. Joey Campbell served as LZ Coordinator.
