Stations 1, 4, 18 and 31 responded to a high speed two vehicle MVC in the 9300 block of Bells Highway, west of Thomas Road at 1518, Tuesday 15-June. Apparently an east bound Ford Expedition collided with a west bound Tractor Trailer hauling wood chips. The Expedition drove under the trailer striking the rear wheels. receiving heavy damage in the collision. The SUV entered the west bound ditch and struck a tree. The driver received severe traumatic injuries and was killed on impact. He was trapped in the wreckage. Bells Hwy was shut down to one lane for about two hours due to the investigation and debris in the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics pronounced the man and notified the Coroner’s Office. The truck driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries and transported by Medic 18 to Colleton Medical Center. After the Coroner’s office completed their investigation, Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver side doors and “B” post. A hydraulic Ram was used to displace the dash and free the victims legs. The Coroner’s Office transported the man.

 

Engine 4, Engine 31, Rescue 1, Rescue 18,  Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Richard Sheffield served as Incident Commander.
