Station 23 held a steak dinner Monday 21-June, at the fire house to honor veteran Firefighter Wayne Ackerman. After one and half decades of service, Ackerman is retiring from the fire service. Station # 23 Captain Doug Mixson, Jr. said, "Mr. Wayne has been with St. 23 since its inception more than a decade ago. Prior to that, he was a volunteer with Station 3. His total volunteer service exceeds 15 years. He has faithfully served Station 23 as the epitome of a model volunteer firefighter. He was at almost every call day and night and was there with financial resources for any need we had and gave his time to help around the station at a moment’s notice. As a department, we hate to see him hang up his helmet and put down his boots, but we truly appreciate his dedication to the Ashton Community and Colleton County Fire Rescue. He will be missed".

Mr. Ackerman plans to continue to be involved in the community and will gladly help when needed.
