Colleton County Fire-Rescue

6/26/2010

An early morning vehicle collision sent four people to Colleton Medical Center. The high speed single car crash occurred at 0738, Saturday 26-June. Stations 1 and 26 responded to I-95 at the 50 mile marker south bound to find an over-turned Saturn in the median. The southbound station wagon left the roadway on the right shoulder, over-corrected and lost control. The vehicle crossed both travel lanes and entered the median, where it flipped over at least four times coming to rest on the cable barrier. Three people in the vehicle received non-life threatening injuries, however one occupant was more seriously injured, receiving a suspected head injury. Two other occupants were not injured. Medic 1 and Medic 26 transported all four patients to Colleton Medical Center. Several of the occupants were reported as not wearing seatbelts. Southbound traffic on I-95 was backed up for about ½ of a mile due to one lane being closed for nearly an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Engineer-EMT-I Mickey Banks served as Incident Commander.
