Stations 9 and 11 responded to a single vehicle high speed MVC in the 25000 block of Augusta Highway just west of Huckleberry Hill Lane, Saturday morning 10-July at 0327. The 35 year old driver was not wearing a seatbelt. He failed to negotiate a curve, went down an embankment causing the small pickup truck to flip over several times before striking a power pole. The Round O man was ejected from the vehicle and was found unconscious approximately 15 feet away near the wood line. He suffered critical traumatic injuries. Engine 11 responded to the accident scene. Medic 9’s crew treated the man at the scene, which included performing RSI to secure his airway. Engine 9 responded to a field west of the accident to establish a landing zone. A medical helicopter was also called to the scene, but Omniflight had to abort the flight due to poor weather conditions. Two additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisted in the transport because of the patient’s condition. The man was then transported from the scene directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston where he remained in critical condition. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and will determine if alcohol was a contributing factor.

Engine 9, Engine 11, Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter Ray Delonge served as Incident Commander.
