Stations 1 and 19 responded to a vehicle accident in the 2800 block of Charleston Highway just east of Smoak Road Wednesday afternoon 14-July at 1441. An east bound Toyota Corolla left the roadway, struck an embankment and several trees before it roll onto its side in the ditch. The female driver received only minor injuries and was able to self extricate with assistance. The passenger received moderate injuries and was trapped in the car. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the vehicle with the assistance of a crane from an IMS Response Truck. Crews then used Holmatro Rescue Tools to cut the “A”, “B” and “C” posts on  the passenger side, which allowed them to fold down the roof and access the passenger. He was treated for his injuries while in the car and then extricated with full spinal precautions. He and the driver were transported to Colleton Medical Center in stable condition. The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Rescue 1 and Car 110 responded. Engineer-EMT-I Chuck Moyer served as Incident Commander.
