Station 9 responded to a high speed single vehicle MVC on Augusta Highway at the intersection of Omega Lane, Saturday afternoon 17-July at 1903. An east bound Scion left the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck a drive culvert. The car became airborne for 136 feet before it nose dived on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle then flipped end over end five times before coming to rest 812 feet from where it first left the roadway (208 feet from where it first hit the ground). The unrestrained male driver was ejected from the car and was found approximately 30 feet from the car. He suffered multiple non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and then transported him to Colleton Medical Center.

The Highway Patrol was already attempting to locate the vehicle after they received several reports of it driving erratically. A Trooper arrived on the scene shortly after the accident occurred. The vehicle was reported to have struck a bridge at one point. Callers reported the car had been travelling in excess of 100 mph prior to the accident. The Highway Patrol is investigating to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter Ray Delonge served as Incident Commander.
