“B” Shift – Structure Fire

Run # 10-04121 - Stations 1, 4, 8, 22 and 29 responded to a structure fire at 2218 Cavanaugh Road Wednesday morning 28-July at 0023. The caller reported the fire could be seen from the road, but was located a substantial distance from the roadway. Engine 8 arrived to find a locked gate across the driveway. Firefighters used bolt cutters to access the property. Once at the scene, Engine 8 found a single family dwelling that was fully involved and had already collapsed, with the roof laying on the ground. They made an initial attack with one 2-1/2 handline, which was later followed with two 1-3/4 lines and booster line. Firefighters worked for about 30 minutes cooling the debris until they could penetrate and remove portions of the roof. Water supply was provided by Tenders. Units were on the scene for over four hours.

A subsequent investigation lead investigators to believe the fire was electrical in origin and was most likely caused by lighting during the severe thunderstorms experienced before the fire was discovered. No one was at home and no injuries were reported.

Engine 1, Engine 8, Tender 1, Tender 8, Tender 4, Tender 2203, Tender 29, Medic 1 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
