“B” Shift – MVC with extrication

Run # 10-05256 - Station 1 responded to a high speed single vehicle MVC on I-95 at the 52 mile marker southbound, Wednesday afternoon 22-September at 1522. A southbound GMC Sonoma Pickup truck suffered a rear tire blowout causing the vehicle to lose control and enter the median. The truck rolled over at least once coming to rest against a large pine tree. The roof sustained heavy damage. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts and suffered only minor injuries. The male occupant was able to exit the vehicle of his own accord, but the female patient was unable to get out of the cab. She was complaining of neck pain. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the truck, maintained “C” spine control on the woman, then used Holmatro Hydraulic tools to cut the “A” and “B” posts to remove the roof. The woman was then placed on a long spine board and transported to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
