“C” Shift – Structure Fire

Run # 10-05265 – Stations 1, 19 and 26 responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of Ivy League Drive, Thursday morning 23-September at 0959. Units were originally dispatched to a singlewide mobile home with smoke and flames showing in the Wiggins Trailer Park located at 117 Taylor Street. While enroute to Taylor Street, units located a well involved doublewide mobile on Ivy League, two blocks away. No fire was found on Taylor Street. Initial callers to 9-1-1 reported vehicles in the yard of the structure with someone possibly being inside. The building was located well off the roadway in a thick wooded area down a small driveway. Upon investigation, Engine 1 discovered the building had been intentionally set by two men who wanted the building off of the property. The structure was vacant. They did not have the any permits to demolish the building and the fire was spreading into the adjacent woods. Engine 1 used a deck gun to knock down the flames and firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline to extinguish the fire. Crews pulled the tin roof from the burning debris to reach the fire underneath. Water supply was provided by

Tenders. DHEC and Forestry Law Enforcement Officers as well as the Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Fire units worked the scene for about 1-1/2 hours.

While units worked the Ivy League Fire, Engine 19, Medic 19 and Car 111 responded to an electrical fire in a residence at 112 Hatchell Drive in the Cedar Oaks Mobile Home Park. Engine 19 arrived to find no visible signs from the exterior of the building. The caller reported an electrical smell inside the structure. Using a Thermal Imager firefighters located an shorted out light switch that had burned inside a wall near the back door of the singlewide mobile home. The fire caused little damage to the building. Electrical power to the building was isolated and the resident was directed to have an electrician make the appropriate repairs. Units were on scene for 30 minutes. Asst. Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
