The first Fire-Rescue unit arrived within 6 minutes to find the building approximately 70 percent involved. Engine 26 dropped 600 feet of 3 inch supply line from a hydrant on the corner at Heirs Corner Road. Firefighters deployed one 2-1/2 handline and two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. Engine 26 briefly used the deck gun  to knock down the heavy fire conditions. The building was actually two vintage singlewide mobile homes fashioned together to form a doublewide. An additional common tin covered roof was added over both trailers which presented some access problems. The building had no electrical power and the occupant advised a candle he was using for light accidently set the curtains in the bedroom ablaze. The man was able to safely exit the structure prior to firefighters arriving. Crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 20 minutes, but were on the scene for 3-1/2 hours performing overhaul. The buildings contained a heavy fire load of clothing and furnishings. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the man, who lost all of his belongings.
