“C” Shift

Run # 10-05441 - Stations 1, 19, 26 and 27 responded to a structure fire at 79 Cross Court Sunday morning 3-October at 0056. Engine 19 arrived to find the older single family wood frame dwelling approximately 85 percent involved. Flames were extending well above the trees and could be seen from a mile away. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. Crews had the main fire knocked down within 15 minutes, but were on scene for two hours performing overhaul. Tenders supplied water for the firefighting effort. The occupants advised they heard a popping sound which awakened them. They discovered the fire in the front room of the house. The home had no working smoke detectors. Fire investigators determined the fire originated in electrical wiring in the front room. Both occupants were able to safely exit the home. They lost all of their belongings in the blaze. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family who had no insurance.
