“A” Shift – MVC with air evacuation

Run # 10-05725 - Station 1 responded to a high speed single car MVC in approximately the 800 block of Ivanhoe Road at 21:46 Monday evening 18-October. The south bound Toyota left the roadway in a curve near the nature trail, went down an embankment, then struck a tree. The small car received heavy damage. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, but suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Despite his injuries, a ten year old occupant exited the car and climbed up the embankment to flag down a passing motorist for help. The car was not visible from the roadway in this remote area of the Great Swamp Sanctuary. Shortly after arrival, Medic 1 requested additional manpower to assist with the patient extrication and care. A medical helicopter was sent to the scene, but diverted to Colleton Medical Center. The ten year old male was flown to the Pediatric Trauma Center at MUSC for treatment of suspected internal injuries. The adult male driver was treated at CMC. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the crash.

Medic 1, Engine 1, Battalion 1, Car 17, Walterboro Engines 1 and 2 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
