10/29/2010

Stations 1, 12, 18, 19, 24, 26 and 27 responded to a residential structure fire at 503 Fifth Street, Friday morning 29-October at 1043. Engine 26 arrived to find the doublewide mobile home approximately 30 percent involved, with flames through the roof. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack with one 1-3/4 handline and quickly brought the fire under control. A second 1-3/4 line was deployed as a backup and used for overhaul. It appeared the fire originated in a bathroom on the “C”/”D”  side of the dwelling. The fire burned into the attic space, then vented through the roof. Interior crews were able to stop the spread of the fire at the living room near the center, saving the remainder of the mobile home. Most personal belongings in the remainder of the residence were saved. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. Fire units were on the scene for two hours. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
