“C” Shift – MVC with entrapment Incident # 10-06605 – A 30 year old man was transported to Colleton Medical Center with trauma injuries following a high speed crash in the 2800 block of Heirs Corner Road Tuesday afternoon 7-December at 1329. Witnesses stated the man possibly suffered a medical emergency while driving southbound on the two lane secondary road. His vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, left the roadway and struck a large pine tree, before skidding back across the road, coming to rest in a yard. The man who was wearing a seatbelt, was trapped in the wreckage. There were a few tense moments, when grass under the vehicle caught fire, then spread through the engine compartment before a fire engine arrived. Firefighters in Battalion 1 used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to begin dismantling the vehicle with Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools. They were able to remove the driver’s door with little difficulty and safely extricate the driver. He was treated at the scene and then transported by Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center. Traffic on Heirs Corner Road was rerouted for about 30 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. |
