“A” Shift – Car vs Cow MVC

Incident # 10-06627 – A 54 year old woman received minor injuries this morning when her car collided with an adult cow on Sniders Highway near O’Quinn Lane Thursday morning 9-December at 0632. The accident occurred just before sunrise on the rural highway. The eastbound small car received heavy damage in the collision when the cow rolled over the roof of the car. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and her air bags did deploy. Despite the heavy damage the woman fortunately received only minor injuries. The cow died from multiple trauma. The woman was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 1 for further evaluation. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the damaged hood from the car to reach the battery that was damaged. The battery was off gassing and arching. Once the hood was removed, crewmembers cut the battery cables. Traffic on Sniders Highway was blocked for a short period while SCDOT workers used a backhoe to load the dead animal into a dump truck.  The SC Highway Patrol and Colleton County Animal Control Officers are investigating the incident.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Fire Fighter-EMT Tony Keen served as Incident Commander.
