“B” Shift – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evacuation Incident # 10-06633 – Stations 1, 5, 19 and 26 responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Jefferies Highway (US Hwy 15) and Augusta Highway (SC Hwy61) [Canadys Crossroads] Thursday morning 9-December at 0945. Initial reports indicated five people were injured, however only one patient required medical treatment. A full sized pickup truck and a Cadillac sedan collided in the intersection. The high speed crash caused the Cadillac to over-turn trapping the male driver. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a suspected head injury. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man inside the car, while other crewmembers used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the patient. He was removed with full spinal precautions. A medical helicopter was requested and landed in a field several miles from the scene. Medic 26 transported the patient to Pleasant Grove Road and Burlington Road to meet with the Omniflight-Charleston helicopter. They flew the patient to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. |
