A 14 year old male suffered multiple traumatic injuries when he was struck by a car on Wesley Grove Road Friday afternoon 17-December. Witnesses stated the cyclist drove into the path of an eastbound car near Saw Dust Trail. The impact broke the bicycle into two pieces sending the youth into the windshield and over the car. The vehicle suffered moderate frontend and roof damage. Medic 9 arrived to find the patient in the roadway. Due to his injuries and suspecting a head injury, a medical helicopter was requested. Omniflight-Charleston responded, landing at a baseball field near the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene, which included dual IVs, immobilization, splinting and then transported the patient to the baseball field. He was flown to the Pediatric Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
