12/28/10 – “C” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 10-06975 - An early evening house fire has displaced a Hyde Park family. Engine 26 arrived at 100 Sunny Drive to find heavy black smoke coming from the single story brick veneer dwelling at 17:41, Tuesday 28-December. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines, entering the structure through the front door. Crews discovered heavy fire conditions in the area of the kitchen, but where able to quickly knock the fire down, containing it to the kitchen and an adjacent bathroom. The fire had extended into the attic above the kitchen, but interior crews were able to knock down the flames, stopping any further spread through the attic. A search of the structure revealed no occupants. Overhaul took about an hour. Most bedroom doors were closed which preserved most items in the bedrooms, saving them from being severely damaged by the heat and smoke. Firefighters were on the scene for three hours. The fire started from an electrical short in a 220 volt line behind the stove. No one was at home at the time of the fire.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
