01/23/2011 – “B” shift – Structure Fire Incident # 11-00444 – An unattended trash fire has left a Sniders family displaced. 9-1-1 Operators received the report of a structure fire at 883 Scuffletown Road Sunday afternoon, 23-January at 13:15. First arriving units found a fully involved 30 foot motor-home that was set up as a fixed residence. A heavy column of black smoke could be seen 8 miles from the scene. Engine 31 deployed one 1-3/4 handline to extinguish the fire in the home and a booster line for a 1/4 acre grass fire. The residence was completely destroyed. No one was at home when the fire occurred. The family lost most of their belongings. The fire spread from an unattended fire in a nearby burn barrel. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family. Engine 4, Engine 8, Engine 18, Engine 31, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 8, Tender 15, Tender 18, Brush 31, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander. |
