The weekend woods fires continued on Sunday, 30-January. As dry conditions and winds spread the fires in several areas of the county. Eight separate woods fires occurred in addition to other responses between the hours of 13:06 and 18:33. 13:06 / 11-00580 / In the area
of Boonie Doone Plantation and Backfield Road a large woods and marsh fire
burned onto the Boonie Doone property, but did not damage any buildings.
The fire spread around the peninsula, through the marsh and back over to
Backfield Road where it skirted the creek and jumped it at one point
damaging a wooden bridge and endangering several homes. Firefighters
from three stations and the Forestry Commission responded and were on the
scene most of the afternoon protecting various buildings and the
plantation. Units were on the scene for 6-1/2 hours. The fire got close to
several buildings but fire units patrolled the area and checked on the
houses to extinguish the fire as it approached any structures. Fire units
were staged at several homes throughout the afternoon to monitor the
changing conditions as the winds swept the fire through the marsh and
woods. It burned approximately 80 acres, but was still burning in the
marsh throughout the night. The fire was expected to stop when it
reached the Horseshoe Creek on the northeastern flank and the Ashepoo
River to the south. Engine 12, Engine 30, Tender 12, Brush 2, Brush 8 and
Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Brian Drew served as Incident Commander.

fire was reported on Ruffin Road near Tobin Road. Engine 4, Engine 18, Medic
18 and a Forestry tractor responded. Firefighter Jeff Laney served as
Incident Commander. 13:55 / 11-00583 / A large woods
fire burned behind multiple homes beginning in the 300 block of Hamilton
Lane extending almost to the end of the road. Firefighters spent several
hours containing the blaze. A Forestry tractor cut a line around the fire.
Engine 8, Engine 13, Tender 8, Tender 27, Tender 29 responded.
Firefighter-EMT Zack Huber served as Incident Commander. 14:08 / 11-00585 / Engine 7 extinguished a small woods fire on Straw Pond and Lumber Road. Capt. John Graham served as Incident Commander. 14:29 / 11-00588 / A small
woods fire was reported at 829 Azalea Patch Road. Engine 26, Engine 31 and
Brush 31 responded. Firefighter Jeff Laney served as Incident Commander. 15:05 / 11-00589 / A grass
fire spread into several yards endangering several homes near 281 Strawberry
Farm Road north of Smoaks. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire
without any damage to the homes. Engine 7, Engine 18, Medic 18 and a
Forestry tractor responded. Captain John Graham served as Incident

16:17 / 11-00591 / A small woods
fire occurred at 128 Avalon Circle small near Williams, which endangered two
mobile homes. Engine 7, Engine 18, Medic 18 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic
Steve Sanders served as Incident Commander. 6:08 PM / 11-00594 / A woods fire
was reported on Bells Hwy near Hilton Hall Road. Engine 26 responded.
Firefighter-Paramedic Blaine Harrison served as Incident Commander. 6:33 PM / 11-00595 / A woods fire was reported on Ruffin Road near Greenville Road. It was a small fire related to the earlier woods fire on Ruffin Road. Engine 18, Medic 18 responded. Firefighter Jeff Laney served as Incident Commander.
