Incident # 11-00671 - A single vehicle accident on Prices Bridge Road has left one woman in critical condition and injured one other person. Fire-Rescue was alert to the collision at 22:10, Thursday evening 3-February. According to a witness, the 2003 GMC Sierra pick-up truck was traveling at a high rate of speed in heavy rains when it failed to stop at the end of the dead end road, colliding with a pine tree. The truck received heavy damage and both unrestrained occupants struck the windshield. Medic 6 found the female passenger unconscious on the floor of the truck, in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance and two Paramedic First Response units were called to the scene to assist with the injured. No medical helicopters could fly due to the poor weather conditions. Firefighter-Paramedics extricated the woman with full-spinal precautions and treated her many injuries. Due to head/facial trauma and airway problems, crewmembers performed RSI on the patient to secure her airway. She was rapidly transported by Medic 6 to the Trauma Center at MUSC with additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisting with her care.

The male driver received multiple non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics before being transported by Medic 19 to MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

Engine 12, Medic 6, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Brian Drew served as Incident Commander.
