02/13/2011 – “A” Shift – MVC with ejection & air evacuation

Incident # 11-00846 – Station 1 responded to a single vehicle MVC on Green Pond Hwy at Catawba Hill Circle Sunday morning 13-February at 00:33. A small GMC SUV left the roadway and overturned ejecting the adult female driver. A second vehicle found the woman lying semi-conscious in the roadway and alerted 9-1-1. Engine 1 and Medic 1 arrived to find the vehicle upright and the woman in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was requested while Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the woman and treated her injuries. She was transported to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the Omniflight-Charleston helicopter. The flight crew performed RSI on the patient to secure her airway. She was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 1, Medic 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Tony Keen served as Incident Commander.
