02/18/2011 - “A” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 11-00946 – Several woods fires kept firefighters busy Friday afternoon with one damaging a barn. Stations 1, 19, 24 and 26 responded to a reported barn fire near the corner of Winchester Road and Shady Dell Lane Friday afternoon 18-Feb at 15:40. Station 1 units were diverted to another incident and Station # 17 was assigned to the Winchester Road fire. Engine 19 arrived to find a fast moving woods/grass fire at the end of a long dirt driveway. The fire had burned approximately 1-1/2 acres and damaged an old barn on the property. The fire caused minor damage to the building, but was extinguished by firefighters. Crews deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and a booster line to combat the fire. The blaze was contained to the property of origin, burning approximately 3 acres.
