02/18/2011 – “A” Shift – Woods Fire

Incident # 11-00947 – Engine 1 responded to a grass fire near the corner of Sniders Hwy and O’Quinn Lane Friday afternoon 18-Feb at 15:41. Upon arrival, they found a large fast moving grass fire that entered a hay field and a wooded area east of the location. The fire was endangering three homes. A full structural response was requested along with Forestry units. Firefighters protected a home on O’Quinn Lane while additional units took up positions on Crews Ford Lane and stood by several homes and a church on Cypress Pond Road. Two brush units from Station 8 also responded as well as two tractors from the Forestry Commission. The fire burned approximately 20 acres keeping firefighters busy for over three hours.  Firefighters deployed multiple handlines and used fire rakes and flaps to contain the fire. Forestry units cut several double fire lines around the perimeter of the fire. No structures were damaged during the incident.

Engine 1, Engine 18, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 18, Tender 26, Tender 27, Tender 32, Medic 1, Brush 8, a private brush unit, Car 111, Car 116 and two Forestry Tractors responded. Asst. Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
