03/04/2011 – “C” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 11-01242 – A Round O Community family was displaced following a late night house fire at 59 Perk Lane Friday evening 4-March at 23:46. Engine 9 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home fully involved. The house was located at the dead end of the one lane dirt road, making access to the residence difficult. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to combat the fire. The first line was used to cool an LP tank next to the structure until crews could knock down the fire on the “B” side of the building. The home also had a one room wood frame addition constructed on the rear of the building. Firefighters had the fire knocked down within 10 minutes, but were on the scene performing overhaul for 2-1/2 hours. Water supply was conducted with a Tender shuttle. The homeowner was at home when they noticed the fire in a center bedroom. They exited the structure, notifying 9-1-1 from the home next door. Investigators determined the fire originated in electrical wiring along the front wall of the mobile home in the room of origin. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 2, Engine 9, Tender 2, Tender 9, Tender 19, Medic 9, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Jonathan Ryan served as Incident Commander.
