03/06/2011 – “B” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 11-01284 – SLED is assisting in the investigation of a suspicious residential fire at 603 Freeman Lane. 9-1-1 operators received several reports of the fire advising the building was well involved. Engine 9 and Medic 9 arrived to find the building with heavy fire conditions on the “B” side of the structure with the roof already collapsed on that end of the building. Firefighters initially made an exterior attack with two 1-3/4 handlines, knocking the fire down enough for crews to enter the structure through the front door. The majority of the fire was contained to the “B” side of the doublewide mobile home, however the remainder of the structure suffered heat and smoke damage. It was evident that the fire was of a suspicious origin and much of the evidence was preserved. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated at the scene by fellow Firefighter-Paramedics. He was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 9 for evaluation and released later in the evening. SLED, Fire-Rescue investigators and the Sheriff’s Office CID spent most of Monday processing the scene.

Engine 9, Engine 11, Tender 9, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Lieutenant Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
