03/08/2011 –“A” Shift – MVC with Entrapment

Incident # 11-01331 – Stations 1 and 26 responded as mutual aid to the City of Walterboro Public Safety Department to extricate a patient from an over-turned vehicle. The accident occurred at the intersection of Forest Hills Road and Ireland Hills Drive Tuesday afternoon 8-March at 14:50. A small Chevrolet S-10 Blazer was struck in the side by a full size Lincoln Navigator causing the small SUV to over-turn trapping the front seat passenger. Rescue 1 used cribbing to stabilize the vehicle and deployed Holmatro Rescue Tools. Firefighter-Paramedics entered the vehicle and began treating the man. The crews were able to extricate the victim without using the hydraulic tools. The patient was immobilized on a long spine board, then transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 26. Medic 1 treated and transported the driver who suffered only minor injuries. Two patients in the Navigator were examined, but denied the need for ambulance transportation to the hospital. Traffic on the busy residential street was detoured for about 40 minutes. Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the crash.

Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 110, Car 116, Car 118, Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander. Walterboro Engine 1 and Engine 2 responded.
