Incident # 11-01696 – A small contingent of Colleton Firefighters with two pieces of apparatus, responded under the SC Firefighter’s Mobilization System to assist Charleston County and State Forestry Firefighters with the 1100 acre woods fire north of Awendaw/McCleanville in Charleston County. Local personnel were sent for a two day deployment, but worked only through the night and next morning (Thursday) when they were released and returned to Colleton County.

At 1919 on 3/23/2011, CCFR received a FF Mobilization request via telephone for deployment to Charleston County for a woods fire.  The request was for two engines and two brush trucks.  Administration was notified and a page was sent out to all personnel.  At 19:45, Chief McRoy authorized Engine 1, Brush 8, and Car 111 to respond.  Staffing was as follows:

Engine 1:  Campbell (Officer), Johnston (D/O), Murdaugh, Jason Benton
Brush 8: Feather (Officer), Scottie O’Quinn (D/O)
Car 111: Greene

At 2030, personnel gathered at HQ and apparatus were loaded.  At 2129, all units departed and upon reporting departure on SC MA01, FF Mob advised to cancel response of Engine but continue with Brush 8 and Car 111.  At 2145, Brush 8 and Car 111 departed and responded emergent to Charleston County on U.S. 17 north of the town of Awendaw.  Units arrived at the Level II staging area at 2255 and were escorted to the staging officer.  Units were accounted for and assigned to Task Force 2.  At 2330, Task Force 2 was designated as follows:

North Charleston Engine 208 (4 personnel)
North Charleston Engine 209 (4 personnel)
Summerville Engine 5 (4 personnel)
Bonneau Engine 190 (4 personnel)
Old Fort Tender 402 (2 personnel)
Moncks Corner Rural Brush 72 (2 personnel)
Colleton Brush 8 (2 personnel)
Colleton Car 111 (2 personnel) – Task Force Leader / Bravo Division Supervisor

Task Force 2 proceeded to the Command Post at 0010 and was assigned the Bravo division for ground cover, reconnaissance and structural protection.  Personnel were briefed by the Operations Chief and received 800 Mhz radios from the Command Post.  The four engines were staged at the South Santee/Germantown Fire Station and the two brush trucks were placed on roving patrols of the Bravo Division.  At 0100 an elevated fire was reported in the brush in the Bravo Division.  Brush 8 arrived and requested Brush 72 and an Engine.  Engine 208 responded and assisted with extinguishment of an elevated dead snag on South Santee Road.  Operations directed Bravo Supervisor to report to the CP.  On arrival, Bravo was directed to extinguish spot fires along U.S. 17 at South Santee Road.  Brush 8 and Engine 208 completed this assignment and reported extinguishing a wood frame building 20 x 20 that was completely destroyed and s moldering.  At 0140, Car 111 reported to the CP and picked up maps of the area for all units in Bravo Division and these were delivered by 0150.  Brush 72 resumed patrol of Wedge Plantation and Harrietta Plantation Lanes.  CP was advised that Old Fort Tender 402 never reported as attached to Task Force 2 and Macedonia Tender 183 was assigned in its place. 
Brush 8 and Engine 208 completed their assignment at 0200 and reported to the fire station to refill with water. Engine 208 went into staging and Brush 8 continued patrolling South Santee Rd from Seven Mile to U.S. 17.  At 0300, Operations asked Bravo Supervisor about resource needs.  It was decided to release North Charleston Engine 208 & 209 and Summerville Engine 5.  They were instructed to report to the CP which had been moved to the fire station in Awendaw and then return to their respective quarters.  Brush 72 was rotated into the station for a break.  Brush 8 continued patrol of South Santee and Car 111 patrolled the plantation roads.  At 0400, B8 was moved to the station for a break and Brush 72 was sent out for patrol of South Santee Rd while Car 111 continued patrolling the plantation roads.  At 0445, the fuel truck was available on U.S. 17 at South Santee and all appropriate apparatus were offered diesel fuel.  Only Tender 183 went to fuel up.  At 0530, Bravo supervisor met with the IC , Ops Chief, and Alpha Supervisor at the fuel truck for DEMOB plans at 0600.  At 0550, Bravo Division was instructed to report to the CP for DEMOB. 
On arrival, a PAR was conducted of Bonneau Engine 190, Macedonia Tender 183, Moncks Corner Rural Brush 72, Colleton Brush 8, and Colleton Car 111.  All units turned in their 800 mhz radios and were released to return to their respective quarters.  At 06:21, Colleton Brush 8 and Car 111 cleared the scene and returned to quarters.  Both units arrived back to Colleton HQ at 08:02 on 3/24/2011.  Units were cleaned out and released.  There were no injuries.
