04-07-2011 – “A” Shift – Woods Fire

Incident # 11-01964 – A controlled burn of a demolished mobile home, got out of hand Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Pioneer Lane. The caller to 9-1-1 reported the singlewide mobile home had been torn down and the owner was burning the remaining pile of debris, when the fire spread to nearby woods. Light winds spread the flames, burning approximately 2-1/2 acres and endangering one home. Engine 19 deployed several handlines and called for additional units to assist with the rapidly spreading fire. Two Tenders and a Brush truck were assigned to the incident. Firefighters contained the fire within 30 minutes but remained on the scene for about 1-1/2 hours. They were able to prevent the fire from reaching any homes. The Forestry Commission responded with a tractor and cut a fire line around the fire.

Engine 19, Tender 19, Tender 26, Brush 24, Medic 19 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic TJ Brown served as Incident Commander.
