04/07/2011 – “A” Shift – Fall with Air Evacuation

Incident # 11-01970 – An Islandton man was air lifted to a Trauma Center Thursday afternoon after he was injured in a fall. The adult male had been working on the roof of a single story residence when he accidently fell approximately 12 feet, landing head first on a concrete driveway. The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a suspected head injury. Firefighters from Station 15 arrived within minutes and treated the man until Medic 18 arrived. Due to his injuries a medical helicopter was requested, but both services had an extended ETA. The patient was packaged and transported by Medic 18 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro to meet with Omniflight-Charleston. He was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.

Engine 15, Engine 19, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Lt. Rodney Murdaugh served as Incident Commander. Firefighter-EMT Bryon Martinson in Engine 19 served as LZ Coordinator.
