04/14/2011 – “B” Shift – MVC with Air Evacuation

Incident # 11-02107 – A 52 year old Walterboro man was air lifted following a motorcycle accident. The MVC occurred Thursday afternoon, 14-April at 17:57. The Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a small SUV in the intersection of Cottageville Highway and Bedon Road. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man lying in the roadway with multiple complaints. He had not been wearing a helmet. The physical  exam lead personnel to suspect a possible head injury. Crews requested a medical helicopter, continued with treatment, then packaged the man before leaving the scene. He was transported to the Lowcountry Regional Airport about one mile from the scene. Omniflight-Charleston met Medic 19, then flew the patient to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. No one was injured in the SUV.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-EMT-I James Varnadoe served as Incident Commander. Captain Scott Feather coordinated the Landing Zone at the airport.
