04/26/2011 – “B” Shift – Structure/Woods Fire

Incident # 11-02350 – Station # 9 responded to a reported woods fire at 130 Riverbirch Lane east of Cottageville Tuesday afternoon 26-April at 16:39. Upon arriving, Engine 9 found a singlewide mobile home fully involved. The roof had already collapsed. A large wooden storage building on the property was also on fire as well as approximately one acre of woods/brush. A structural response was assigned to the incident. Multiple handlines were deployed from Engine 9, allowing crews to quickly extinguish the fire in the storage building, saving most of the structure. Other firefighters knocked down most of the woods fire. The Forestry Commission also responded. The mobile home was a complete loss. Firefighters were on the scene for 2-1/2 hours.

Engine 9, Engine 11, Tender 2, Tender 9, Tender 19, Medic 9 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
