05/06/2011 – “B” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 11-02526 – Stations 1, 12, 19 and 27 responded to a structure fire at 4464 Charleston Highway at 05:10, Friday morning 06-May. The homeowner noted he woke to see bright lights in his back yard. Upon investigating he discovered the large rear wooden deck on the house burning. He notified 9-1-1 and began fighting the fire himself with a garden hose. Engine 19 arrived to deploy one 1-3/4 handline to extinguish the fire. A booster line was also used during overhaul. Approximately 120 square feet of wooden deck was destroyed by the fire. The deck extended across the entire back of the house. It appeared construction materials left over from a floor refinishing job may have ignited and started the fire. Due to the damage, it is estimated the fire had slowly burned for several hours before it was found. No one was injured during the incident.

Engine 12, Engine 19, Tender 1, Tender 12, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
