It is with deep regret that we inform you that the Reverend Monsignor Joseph R. Roth, PA passed away Sunday morning, May 15th at 0915 hours.

Monsignor Roth served for several decades as a teaching Franciscan Brother before being ordained as a priest in 1979. He served in parishes around South Carolina such as Sullivan's Island, Aiken and Myrtle Beach before becoming the Diocese of Charleston's Vicar General. Msgr. Roth served as director of the office of diaconate for 20 years, from 1990 to 2010. He was most recently assigned to St Andrews Church in Myrtle Beach. He was appointed Chaplain Emeritus of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, Chaplain of the South Carolina Firefighter's Association, as well as numerous Chaplancies for local Fire Services and Emergency Services around the state.

A quote from the Aiken Standard sums up a lot of people's feeling about our long-time Chaplain, "From 1989 until 1994, Msgr. Joseph Roth charmed and enlightened his parishioners at St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken, SC. In much the same way, he inspired the officers and firefighters at the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Roth was one of them - not just a chaplain but a trained, certified firefighter who volunteered through his stay in Aiken". As soon as we know the arrangements for the funeral we will let you all know.

Please keep Monsignor in your Thoughts and Prayers.
