06/28/2011 – Structure Fires – “B” Shift

Incident # 11-03560 – Engine 11 was dispatched to a woods fire in the 1000 block of Mars Old Field Road Tuesday afternoon 28-June at 14:12. On arrival at 1018 Mars Old Field Road, they found an approximately 3-1/2 acre woods fire, with four structures burning and a double wide mobile home threatened. Engine 11 requested a structural assignment, a tractor from the Forestry Commission, then deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and a booster line. The fire had already destroyed two vacant mobile homes at the rear of the property and began burning a wooden fence near a third doublewide mobile home on the west side of the fire. On the east side, the fire had spread on to the adjacent property burning a storage building and a dual axle camper that was being used as a residence. The camper was well involved. The occupant had narrowly escaped the burning camper with only the clothes he was wearing. As additional units arrived, Engine 9 took up a position east of the fire to protect the exposures, primarily the doublewide mobile home. Engine 9 deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and one booster line.

The Forestry tractor cut a line around the fire. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene for three hours. Water supply was handled with Tenders. The Forestry Commission is investigating the cause of the fire.

Engine 5, Engine 9, Engine 902, Engine 11, Tender 5, Tender 9, Tender 903, Tender 19, Squad 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Zack Huber served as Incident Commander.
