07-16-2011 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 11-03925 – An alert neighbor is credited with saving a Lodge Home Saturday evening 16-July. At 18:12 a neighbor on Trackside Drive reported smoke and flames coming a home near the corner of Bells Hwy and Junction Road. Firefighters arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the single story dwelling at 19852 Bells Highway. Firefighters made an attack on the fire with two 1-3/4 handlines. Upon entering the structure, they found some fire in the kitchen, but most of the flames where isolated to the attic. Crews quickly brought the fire under control saving most of the building and most of the families belongs. Two rabbits and a turtle survived the fire, however two hamsters perished. One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.  He did not require transportation to the hospital. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 3, Engine 18, Engine 23, Tender 3, Tender 7, Tender 18, Tender 23, Medic 18 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
