07/31/2011 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Incident # 11-04216 – At 11:01 Sunday morning 31-July, 9-1-1 Operators were notified of a barn on fire at 2621 Miracle Drive. The caller reported a nearby mobile home was endangered. Engine 31 arrived 8 minutes later, reporting a fully involved barn, advising the roof had already collapsed. Engine 31 used a deck gun to knock down the flames, then deployed two handlines to begin working the fire. Engine 18 arrived a few minutes later to assist with the barn and protect the exposure. Twenty-five Firefighters worked in a sweltering 115 degree heat index for twenty minutes to bring the fire under control. Overhaul lasted another 40 minutes. The barn and its contents, which included a work shop, tools, equipment and several appliances, were completely destroyed. The doublewide mobile located about 25 feet from the barn was not damaged. No injuries were reported. The fire appears to have started in electrical wiring in the barn.

 

Engine 10, Engine 18, Engine 31, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 15, Tender 18, Tender 27, Tender 29, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responder. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
