09/17/2011 – Motorcycle MVC  - “A” Shift

Incident # 11-05050 – A single motorcycle MVC has left a 21 year old man in critical condition. The accident occurred on Sniders Highway near Brick Road at 02:07, Saturday morning 17-September. The west bound Suzuki motorcycle lost control in a curve near Brick Road, resulting the driver falling from the bike which was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver slid in the roadway, then down the shoulder of the road for several hundred feet. A passing motorist found the man semi-conscious near the wood line on the east bound side of the road. The motorcycle was in the ditch, another 100 feet away on the westbound side of the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived about 8 minutes later and found the 21 year old man with multiple traumatic injuries. A medical helicopter was requested while crewmembers treated the man. No medical helicopters were able to respond due to poor weather conditions. The man was rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center where he was stabilized in the ED. In less than 40 minutes, he was transferred by Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  

Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
