10/03/2011 – MVC with Ejection & Air Evacuation – “C” Shift

Incident # 11-05370 – A high speed chase on Mount Carmel Road resulted in a 16 year old female being ejected Monday afternoon 3-October. Fire-Rescue was alerted to the accident at Mount Carmel Road and Can City Road at 17:40. The location is approximately 5 miles north of the City. Walterboro Public Safety Officers reportedly were chasing a small car north on Mount Carmel Road at speeds in excess of 120 mph. The small vehicle failed to negotiate the 90 degree turn, struck a ditch embankment before flipping end over end into a hay field. The pursuing Officers were on scene within seconds after the crash. The teenage driver was found in the field and was semi-conscious. Medic 26 and Engine 26 arrived minutes later. Due to the patient’s condition, mechanisms of injury and suspected internal injuries, a medical helicopter was requested. Lifenet 3 from Orangeburg responded to a field about ½ of a mile north of the accident. The girl was treated and immobilized by Firefighter-Paramedics on Medic 26, then flown by Lifenet 3 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic John Schneider served as Incident Commander.
