The accident occurred near the 46 mile marker southbound at 09:14 Tuesday morning 4-October. The southbound Volvo tractor trailer entered the median and over-turned. The male driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the cab. Medic 1 and Engine 1 arrived to find the driver pinned under the cab. The truck was hauling a non-hazardous load. Rescue 1 was assigned to the incident and a local heavy wrecker also responded to the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics determined the man had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. After their investigation, Firefighters and wrecker personnel rigged the cab so it could be lifted. The cab was cribbed so Firefighters could crawl under the wrecked vehicle. The driver’s arm was pinned between the wreckage and the cable barrier. Crews worked for approximately 30 minutes to free the victim. He was transported from the scene by the Coroner’s Office. The SC Highway Patrol and State Transport Police are investigating the crash.
