01/01/2012 – Woods and Structure Fires – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-00012 – A yard debris fire burned out of control damaging two storage buildings Sunday afternoon 01-January. At 14:43, Stations 5, 17, 19 and 26 responded to 9442 Augusta Highway in the Springtown community on the report of a large grass fire endangering several structures. Engine 5 arrived to find two storage buildings on fire with an approximately 1-1/2 acres of grass and woods burning. The fire was driven by light winds. A structural assignment was added to the incident as well as a tractor from the Forestry Commission. Engine 5 deployed several handlines to protect a mobile home and extinguish the storage buildings. Tender 26 set up at the rear of the property to protect two homes and extinguish the fast moving grass fire. The fire did reach the woods north of the property. The Forestry Tractor cut a fire line around the head of the fire to contain the fire in the woods. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from reaching any of the homes near the fire. One storage building suffered moderate damage and approximately two acres was burned.  

Engine 5, Engine 26, Engine 17, Tender 19, Tender 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Engineer-Paramedic Blaine Harrison served as Incident Commander.
