01/12/2012 – Fatal MVC with ejection – “B” Shift

Incident # 12-00243 – A 33 year old man lost his life following a single car MVC in the 4400 block of Hudson Mill Road Thursday evening 12-Janaury at 21:36. Evidence at the scene indicated the Nissan Maxima left the roadway in a curve and struck an embankment before hitting a large pile of dirt. The vehicle then flipped over at least once ejecting the sole occupant into the roadway. Medic 18 arrived to find the man unconscious in the road approximately 65 feet from the car. The vehicle suffered heavy damage. The patient was quickly evaluated by Firefighter-Paramedics, but had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. The vehicle contained two empty child seats in the rear of the car. Firefighters searched the surrounding area and woods, using flash lights and a Thermal Imaging Camera. It was later learned the children were safe at another location. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 4, Medic 18, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-EMT Brain Wilson served as Incident Commander.
