02/11/2012 – MVC with entrapment and Air Evacuation

Incident # 12-00797 – One woman was flown to a Trauma Center following a single car MVC in the 2000 block of Cayce Road Saturday 11-February at 12:06. The 2000 Chrysler mini-van left the roadway after a curve and struck a tree. The van received heavy frontend damage. Medic 18 arrived to find the 55 year old female driver entrapped in the car. She was conscious, but suffering from multiple traumatic injuries.  Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the woman and requested a rescue unit. Firefighters used Holmatro rescue tools to removed the driver’s door to free the woman. She was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported to a nearby field to meet with Lifenet 4. She was transferred to the helicopter without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 23, Medic 18, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Captain Matt Williams served as Incident Commander.
