03/16/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-01445 – An electrical short is to blame for a fire in the ceiling of a doublewide mobile home located at 342 Chris Lane near Ritter Friday afternoon, 16-March. The fire was reported at 11:49 when smoke was spotted coming from the roof vents. Fire-Rescue units arrived approximately five minutes later to find light smoke coming from the roof vents and eaves. Crews encountered almost no smoke inside the residence, however conditions outside continued to get worse as interior crews searched for the fire. With the use of a Thermal imagining Camera, interior personnel found a very hot spot above the kitchen. After pulling the ceiling in the kitchen, they found the fire above the ceiling between the kitchen and a bedroom. Interior crews used an 1-3/4 handline, while the exterior crew on the roof used a booster line. The fire was quickly extinguished, but damaged wiring and several rafters. The home also suffered some water damage despite salvage covers being deployed. Firefighters secured a salvage cover over holes in the roof until the homeowner could have repairs made.

Engine 6, Engine 22, Tender 1, Tender 2, Tender  6, Tender 8, Tender 27, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Firefighter-EMT (Asst. Fire Marshal) Michael Banks served as Incident Commander.
