05/03/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-02357 – A vacant singlewide mobile home was destroyed Thursday afternoon from what appeared to be an unattended debris pile fire. The fire was reported at 15:11 with the caller telling dispatchers that fire was visible from the home. Engine 31 arrived minutes later to find the small mobile home well involved, with approximately 1-1/2 acres of nearby woods burning. Engine 31 used a deck gun to knock down the bulk of the fire, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline to begin overhaul operations. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. A booster line was also deployed to combat the woods fire and a tractor from the Forestry Commission also responded. A second booster line from Tender 4 was used as the woods fire spread to the adjacent property. The building suffered heavy damage, but a second nearby mobile home was protected, suffering no damage. Firefighters were on the scene for 2 hours. Fire-Rescue and Forestry investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Engine 18, Engine 31, Tender 4, Tender 3, Tender 15, Tender 18, Medic 18, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105, Car 107 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
