05/03/2012 – SUV vs horses MVC – “C” Shift Incident # 12-02402 – Five people were injured and three horses died in a collision on Rehoboth Road (SC Hwy. 651) north of Lightsey Quarters Road near Cottageville Thursday evening 03-May at 21:16. The accident occurred on the dark stretch of rural highway approximately ½ mile north of Cottageville Highway (US Hwy 17). A northbound full-sized SUV collided with the three horses who were in the roadway, killing one animal and severely injuring the other two. Both other horses died at the scene within the hour. The SUV suffered heavy damage, resulting in the five occupants receiving non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Two adults and three children were transported to Colleton Medical Center for treatment. Traffic on Rehoboth Road was completely blocked for over an hour. Law Enforcement detoured the traffic until the vehicle and animals could be removed. Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Animal Control Officers responded. Firefighter Ray Delonge served as Incident Commander. |
