05/01-05/06 – Trench Rescue Class

Fire-Rescue conducted a NFPA Compliant Trench Rescue Class during the first week of May. Thirty five Firefighters attended the course which included two days of classroom training, followed by two days of hands on evolutions in an actual trench.  Personnel learned about soil types, collapse scenarios, mechanical advantage, hazard control, stabilization, shoring techniques and the rescue of victims. Colleton County recently purchased  Holmatro Shoring Equipment. Logistics staff constructed the wooden sheeting, as well as timber shores. Crews spent two days building various shoring systems to allow for the rescue of training manikins. Everyone learned a great deal about these rescue techniques.

The course was taught by Battalion Chief Stallings, Captain Feather, Lieutenant Campbell, and Deputy Chief Greene
