07/05/2012 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evacuation – “C” Shift Incident #12-03633 – A two car MVC sent two people to the hospital Thursday afternoon 5-July. At 16:24, Fire-Rescue was notified of the accident in the 600 block of Robertson Blvd at 16:24. It was located just east of North Jefferies Blvd. A small Dodge pulled into the path of an east bound car causing the Dodge to be struck broadside in the driver’s door. The impact caused over 2-1/2 feet of intrusion into the vehicle trapping the female driver and injuring the female passenger. A mother and two small children in the other vehicle received minor injuries which did not require ambulance transportation. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating both patients in the car. The passenger was removed with full spinal precautions, while other crewmembers began the extrication of the driver. Once the passenger was removed, Medic 26 transported her to Colleton Medical Center. The driver received continued treatment until personnel using Holmatro Rescue Tools were able to remove the heavily damaged driver’s side doors. |

The driver was extricated, immobilized and transported to the helipad at CMC to meet with the LifeNet 4 medical helicopter. She was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Traffic on Robertson Blvd was rerouted for nearly an hour. The accident is being investigated by Walterboro Public Safety Officers. Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 109 and Car 118 responded. Walterboro Public Safety Engine 1 and Engine 3 also responded.
